Gaetano “Guy” Comerci proudly realizes his lifelong dream of opening a wine shop, Vinissimo Wine Shop, in Evanston, IL. With experience from all sides of the wine business--distribution, sales, and management--he shares the knowledge he gained from visiting wineries throughout the US and Europe to his boutique wine shop. To inspire the palate with a sense of taste, Guy aims to satiate the most discerning wine connoisseur to the novice drinker.
Raised in a retail family, Guy observed his father, Vincenzo, treat his customers like family in his small market on Chicago’s North Shore. For decades, Vincenzo greeted his shoppers with a hearty hello in his thick Italian accent, a firm handshake, hug, and a toothy grin. Guy aspires to create the same community within his wine shop as his father did in his neighborhood market.
Motivated by the feelings that food and wine evoked around his family meals, Guy pursued a career in wine. Beginning in a sales role and progressing to Vice President of Sales, collaborating with importers and distributors for international and national wineries, Guy has helped wines expand and create brand recognition throughout the Midwest. When it comes to experience in wine, Guy checks all of the boxes.
A natural when it comes to forging relationships, when anyone meets Guy, it’s as if they’ve known each other their entire lives. He’s built lifelong friendships with top sommeliers, his longtime customer base, farmers, vintners, and winemakers spanning from California, Oregon, to Italy, France, Spain, and beyond. With mutual trust and respect, Guy knows the “who’s who” in the wine business.
And when asked, “What your favorite wine?” Guy is hardpressed to answer. He believes that terroir-driven wines are the best. While it’s hard to describe a wine’s “it” factor, Guy knows that the best wines represent the areas and origin they are from, but most of all he knows that his “customers are always right.”
