The whiskey is named after the formerly enslaved man, Nathan "Nearest" Green, who taught a young Jack Daniel the craft of distilling.
The nose showed bananas first with sweet notes of corn, dusty grain. Lemon shows up as over note then followed by cream custard and a touch of flowers. The palate has a very soft and delicate start, Butterscotch, honey, smoked wood and apples are filling the palate with a medium texture.
The finish has nutmeg, browned bitter, bananas, tobacco and cherries. A lovely finish.
Uncle Nearest 1884 is a simple and joyful whiskey to sip. For those who like a dense and thick texture, it can become light but the flavors are not simple.
